20 move on to D6 semis

ALTOONA — Twenty area wrestlers advanced to today’s District 6 Class AA semifinals, set to begin at noon at Altoona Field House.
Both of Richland’s top-seeded wrestlers after byes, were able to navigate their second and quarterfinal-round matches. At 126, junior Adam George had a technical fall over Moshannon Valley’s Nick Krupa, 15-0 in 3:02 and then decisioned  Juniata’s Richie Gibson 7-0.
Senior Nico Pecora pinned Central Cambria’s Cordale Kline in 1:13 and then had a technical fall over Claysburg-Kimmel’s Justin Hammel 16-0 in 3:51 in the 170-pound bracket.
The other top seeds to advance are Central Cambria freshman Max Murin at 106 and junior Triston Law of Forest Hills at 120.
Murin pinned Blairsville’s Colin Weinell and had a major decision over Tanner McCall of Forest Hills while Law had a technical fall over Juniata’s Bret Lewis, 16-0 in 1:59 and decisioned Westmont Hilltop’s Drake Dorian, 6-0.
Other area wrestlers who advanced include four athletes from Cambria Heights - senior Joe Davis (126 pounds), junior Levi Niebauer (160), junior Dalton Waksmunski (170) and senior Aaron Gill (285).
The three wrestlers from Ligonier Valley who advanced are senior Carlos Chavez (106), sophomore Dalton Clark (132) and junior Raymond Marsh (220).
A pair of Central Cambria sophomores, Ian Ostrowski at 113 and Tom Opdenhoff at 126, will wrestle in today’s semifinals along with two from Penn Cambria junior Nolan Link at 106 and senior Johnathan Wilkinson at 220.
Two other Forest Hills wrestlers join Law in today’s semis, juniors Josh Gould at 132 and Travis Templeton at 145.
The other three to advance are: Senior Logan Blackburn of Westmont Hilltop at 113; senior Nicholas Naglic of Richland at 145 and junior Tyler Oliver of United at 195.
Wrestling begins at 10:30 am with the fourth-round consolations.
