Kachman paces area runners at state meet

HERSHEY — Bedford sophomore Will Kachman was running on the fast track Saturday morning at the PIAA Cross Country Championships on the Parkview Course.
Kachman finished third in a time of 16:38 in the Class AA contest.

Simendinger, Dorian and Red Devils claim gold

SIDMAN — Penn Cambria’s Arlee Simendinger and Westmont Hilltop’s Hannah Dorian were first-time champions at Saturday’s District 6 Cross Country Championships, but the winning tradition is something that the Central Cambria team is very familiar with.
“This is the ninth consecutive district championship and the 12th in my 14 years,” said Red Devils coach Randy Wilson after his team claimed the Class A crown. “This has to be one of the sweetest. We have no seniors on the team in the top seven.

Forest Hills serves as first-time Dist. 6 host

SIDMAN — When the opportunity to host the District 6 cross country championships arose, Forest Hills literally ran with it.
On Saturday for the first time in many years, the finals were held at the course at the Forest Hills Middle School rather than at Indian Valley Elementary and Intermediate School in Reedsville.
For Forest Hills Athletic Director Joe Gironda, the transition has gone relatively smoothly.

JOHNSTOWN — Central Cambria senior Alyssa Brandis didn’t know much about Seton Hill University, which is located in Greensburg, before Red Devils cross country coach Randy Wilson informed one of the more decorated female athletes in the school’s history of its strong athletic programs.
