Shade grabs win over A-C Valley

FOXBURG — It took a while for Shade to get its game going against host Allegheny-Clarion Valley on Friday.
Once the Panthers found their bearings, they scored 13 unanswered points on their way to a 20-7 win over the Falcons.
Shade leapt out to a 6-0 lead on the opening kickoff as Nash Walker returned the ball 80 yards.
Allegheny-Clarion Valley replied, taking the lead on 35-yard screen pass later on in the first.
“We knew it was going to be tough traveling for 3 hours,” Shade coach Don Fyfe said. “The first half, I felt that we were still riding the bus but the second half we made adjustments and we really played well.”
Shade regained the lead in the third as Mitch Napora barreled in from the 9. Tyler Kline’s conversion run boosted the lead to 14-7.
Kline’s 12-yard run in the fourth sealed the Panthers’ win and a trip to the District 5 Class A postseason.
“We played much better,” Fyfe noted. “We were more physical defensively. I thought we controlled both lines. We were able to run like we always like to and we held them in check pretty much the whole second half.”
Defensively, Shade reported that Walker, Kline, Brian Spangler and Chase Samosko each tallied double figures in tackles.
